Sports and Leisure Management

This group focuses on a range of issues including, sports and physical activity across the community, which includes engagement in physical activity across the local authority area, and services. The group covers the effective management of sports centres and swimming pools, sports development, promotion of community wellbeing, such as through behaviour change programmes, sports clubs and inclusion activities, as well as the interface in public health related services such as GP referrals. 

The group also covers staffing issues including safeguarding, innovations in equipment and consumer trends in leisure. The emerging themes of commissioning and links with health and wellbeing outcomes at a public policy level are also explored as legislation and guidance emerges from government administrations across the UK.

The APSE Principal Advisor for this group is Rob Bailey. The chair of this group is Cllr Paul Gittings of Reading Borough Council.
