Are you looking to roll out Carbon Literacy training across your authority? How can you ensure your training activities will be a success – both face-to-face and in the virtual environment?

If your council has an ambition to become carbon neutral, you have probably considered Carbon Literacy training for your staff and Elected Members. Many councils are exploring the most cost-effective ways of delivering this widely.

APSE can deliver the Carbon Literacy toolkits for you, as an in-house option, but if you would prefer to roll the training out yourselves, we can help with that too.

We are committed to excellence in training delivery; and in consultation with the Carbon Literacy Project, we have created this course to help you deliver the local authority Carbon Literacy toolkits for your council.

On the course, you will have the opportunity to work through the packs and trainer guidance; practice tried and tested training techniques and classroom management; trial and time the activities; build on best practice examples from APSE’s extensive network and develop a plan for delivering this training across your council.

Based on insights from APSE’s Train the Trainer course, in addition to familiarising you with the Carbon Literacy materials, you will gain a number of trainer skills to help you deliver excellent training.

This training does not lead to the Carbon Literacy Award. We strongly recommend you achieve this award prior to undertaking this training and prior to delivering Carbon Literacy training for your authority. To become Carbon Literate follow this link: Carbon Literacy for Local Authorities.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore the content of the Carbon Literacy toolkits
  • Deepen your understanding of the training cycle and prepare for your own training
  • Appreciate the role of good communication in transferring knowledge
  • Assess and practice classroom management skills to engage learners and keep the training under control
  • Explore how adults learn and methods to differentiate learning
  • Develop skills in groupwork and group dynamics
  • Examine techniques to assess that learning has taken place
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of training aids, support materials and technology

Who Will Benefit?

You will benefit from this course if you:

  • Will be rolling out Carbon Literacy within your organisation
  • Have already achieved your Carbon Literacy award
  • Are a newly appointed training officer or wish to refresh your skills in training delivery
  • Are a subject specialist who will be delivering this training
  • Want to work with others to plan effective Carbon Literacy training to amplify your council’s ambitions

This course will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. To access it, you will need a WiFi connection or mobile data hotspot. This highly interactive training includes a mixture of presentations, video conferencing, group work, games, quizzes and video.
