Following on from the launch of APSE Energy at Westminster in June, it was the Scottish launch event in Edinburgh today.
The theme was about distributed energy where local authorities can act as suppliers within local areas along with partners. Following on from launch speeches for APSE Energy from the Chair of APSE’s Scottish Renewables and Energy Efficiency advisory group, Cllr Ramsay Milne and APSE’s Chief Executive, Paul O’Brien, the Director of APSE Energy, Mark Bramah, spoke about the opportunities for local authorities around renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy supply, and how this could deliver on major public policy issues around climate change and tackling fuel poverty.
Reg Platt of Ovo energy spoke about how cheaper energy could be delivered to consumers by breaking the dominance of the big six in what is clearly a broken energy market. With 40 authorities signed up to APSE Energy already that aspiration could become a reality.
