The role of political leadership in driving and facilitating local sustainable energy programmes
Wednesday 29 October 2014
De Montfort University, Leicester
The APSE Energy local leaders forum is designed to consider the importance of local political leadership in delivering sustainable energy solutions to address the needs of communities.
The role of councillors as advocates, brokers and leaders in municipal energy programmes is absolutely vital to achieving successful outcomes, whether the objectives are to generate new long-term revenue streams for the Council to support local public services; address social and economic priorities within communities in tackling fuel poverty and promoting local employment and training; or facilitating community ownership and engagement in energy projects. Local leaders can articulate and represent community interests; facilitate engagement with various partners in the public, private and community sectors; ensure that municipal energy projects are prioritised within the budget setting process; build a political and corporate and community consensus around energy needs and deliverables; and provide the vision, drive and commitment needed to deliver successful schemes on the ground.
The local leaders forum will provide an opportunity for elected members to discuss their hopes and ambitions, consider the barriers to success and how to overcome them and to share experiences and diverse approaches to distributed energy and learn from case studies and examples of best practice.
This is a free event for APSE Energy members, and £50+VAT for non-members. This includes a full delegate place and information, arrival lunch and refreshments. The workshop will allow delegates to network over lunch.
