APSE Energy Roundtable Event

Options for local energy supply: ‘Our Power’ A not for Profit Model

Date: Thursday 11 December 2014
Time: 12.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m. (lunch will be provided from 12.00 p.m.)
Venue: Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, West Hartford Business Park, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 3JP (Map and directions here)

APSE Energy is committed to providing its members with information about the range of opportunities that might be available to Councils to develop local supply options and to support municipal energy projects. We have already run a series of workshops with OVO Energy looking at their community energy offer and how local authorities can set up a ‘virtual energy company’ with the support of a private sector partner. But this is clearly an area in which there are a number of different approaches. We are aware of the impending launch of a not for profit model which has been developed by a consortium of 8 housing associations mainly in Scotland, but including Gentoo housing Group based in Sunderland. This approach has been developed in conjunction with a renewable energy charity, the Renewable Power Exchange based in Edinburgh which has received recent publicity through Inside Housing magazine and in a recent article in the Independent Newspaper which you can read here.

We have an opportunity to have a round table discussion with Dawn Muspratt, the Director of the Renewable Power Exchange about the innovative and exciting work on local energy supply which they have been developing, linked to tackling fuel poverty for social housing tenants. This will take place as follows:

The roundtable will also provide an opportunity to explore in more detail some of the practical and legal issues involved in setting up a local authority energy services company with APSE’s legal partners Walker Morris and Steve Cirell an APSE Energy Consultant. The line-up of contributors will be:

  •          Dawn Muspratt, Director, Renewable Power Exchange
  •          David Kilduff, Partner, Walker Morris LLP
  •          Stephen Cirell, APSE Energy Consultant
