APSE Northern Region Forum and General Meeting

The pandemic has shown how important greenspaces are to people who have reconnected strongly with the natural environment globally. Coupled with this phenomenon, is the decline in retail on the high street, causing many local authorities to take the opportunity to transform their city centres and urban spaces to adopt a more mixed space approach in which greenspaces play a major part.

New parks, increased tree planting, water features and biodiversity habitats are now all forming part of many new developments whether this be housing, industry or retail. People are now realising and valuing their links with nature and the green environment and are demanding that the old traditional approaches to the urban street scenes are changed.
