Biodiversity Net Gain: Turning policy into practice and income

Friday 28 November, 10.00-11.15, MS Teams

FREE for APSE member councils

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is becoming a key element of planning and development, creating both new responsibilities and major opportunities for councils. By strategically using council-owned land, local authorities can generate long-term income while delivering environmental improvements, tackling climate targets, and enhancing community wellbeing.

APSE Energy Associates Steve Cirell and Lizzie Walker will lead the session:

  • Steve Cirell will outline the legislative context and explain how local authority engagement with BNG can deliver  income generation.

  • Lizzie Walker, a qualified ecologist, will discuss practical considerations – such as identifying suitable land, conducting surveys, and assessing biodiversity value.
