APSE are keen to determine how many Local Authorities are now employing Apprentices in Catering and Cleaning.

Please could you provide details of:

  • Number of Catering Apprentices employed?
  • Number of Cleaning Apprentices employed?
  • Does your Apprenticeship scheme automatically guarantee a job on completion?

Crossing Patrol Services – BC0085/CAT0144/171013
A local authority its reviewing their School Crossing Patrol (SXP) Services:

  • Have you stopped providing an SXP service in the last few years, if yes, why?
  • Does your Authority procure your SXP services from an external provider?
  • Which staff cover this service, on a full or part time basis, other than Janitorial employees?

APSE Network Query: Academy School Cleaning Contracts – BC0080/050613
As more schools covert to Academies, the relationship changes from one based on a service level agreement to a contractual one:

  • Do you clean any Academies?
  • Do you clean under an existing annual SLA or a Contract (who produced the contract document?)
  • Is there support from the Council i.e. HR, Legal team in providing the service to the Academy?
  • Do you supply Caretaking in an Academy?
  • If you have lost business to an new provider, who paid the actuarial costs of the pension, Council or new provider?

Many authorities are looking to clean on a reduced number of days per week. APSE is aiming to establish the frequency (days per week) currently used for office cleaning.

Please can you provide the following:

  • Frequency for general office space?
  • Frequency for high risk (toilet) areas?
  • Frequency for communal areas and corridors
  • Input / Output based spec

Key Holding BC0078/020413
A member cleaning service is looking to offer a ‘key holding ‘service with responsibilities for opening and closing buildings in addition to cleaning.

Please can you provide information on the following:

  • Nature of your ‘key-holding’ service?
  • Charged additionally or as part of cleaning service?
  • Typical charge /week/year as stand-alone service?
