Maternity related absence management – ER0062/080311
This member authority is currently reviewing the management of maternity related absences and would be grateful for any information you may have on how other local authorities manage this type of absence. They currently have a number of work life balance initiatives to offer employees and do not apply absence ‘triggers’ but manage each case individually. They would however appreciate details on how others manage such absences. For example:

• Is maternity related absence managed at a corporate level only or departmentally?
• What guidance do you issue to departments or managers?
• Are you able to provide copies of any guidance or policy documents?

This authority would like feedback from other authorities on the following:

• Does your council currently operate a pool car scheme?
• How many, at what cost?
• How were staff and trade unions consulted on this issue?
• Do you operate a computerised booking scheme?  How does it operate? i.e. central pool, fuelling, maintaining, checking before starting journey's etc.
• Would it be possible to see your usage policies?
