SL0253 – Leisure Membership Offers – 101221

A member authority if reviewing their membership offer.

Please can you answer the following:

  1. Do you have minimum contract terms for your memberships, if so, what?
  2. What is the structure of your membership Scheme, what membership categories do you have, and how have you come to the price point at which they are offered?
  3. Do you offer a discount for paid in full memberships, and if so who much is that discount?
  4. Do you offer short term memberships eg monthly or three monthly? If so, are these set at a premium price, and how did you arrive at that price point?
  5. Do you offer a family membership, and if so what is included for members?
  6. Do you offer children’s memberships? Is this based on a child alone or as a bolt-on or addition to an adult membership What is included in the offer?
  7. How do you manage membership debt, is this managed in house or by a third party, and what is your experience, collection rates etc?

SL0252 - Outdoor facilities - Combatting anti-social behaviour - 081021

A member Authority has recently taken over the management of an outdoor 3G astroturf pitch and tennis courts.

They are experiencing various levels of anti-social behaviour at these facilities including trespassing, damage to property & verbal abuse.

Access, lighting, and bookings are all automated as there is no onsite presence from the council which may be a contributing factor as to why we are now experiencing such behaviour.

Have you experienced similar issues with outdoor facilities?

  • What systems/procedures have you implemented to restrict unauthorised access to your sites (ideally sports facilities)
  • How have you been able to combat anti-social behaviour that impacts other users of the courts/pitches?

SL0251 – Wild Swimming and Triathlons - Wildlife Considerations – 041021

A member authority is attempting to balance use of their facilities for sporting events against the disturbance to local wildlife habitat.

With the increase in interest in wild swimming and triathlon events they would like to know:
  • What steps have you taken to ensure public safety (water quality checks, lifeguards?) 
  • What measures have you taken to avoid possible disturbance to water birds in the nesting season?

SL0250 - Quiet times for vulnerable children at Water play facilities and play areas - 090821

A member authority would like to hear from other authorities around providing quiet times for vulnerable children at water play facilities and play areas in order that they have an opportunity to safely enjoy themselves.

Do you provide or have considered providing quiet times for vulnerable children at water play facilities and play areas?

Is this this done by weekly pre-booked “quiet times” for vulnerable children and families?

If you have, they would be interested to know how have you organised and managed this along with any other thoughts and anything you have in place.

A member authority is seeking to return Direct Debit collection for gym memberships in-house

  • How do you currently collect membership Direct Debits?
  • Have you brought the payment system back in-house?
    • If so what system do you use?

SL0247 – Mystery Shoppers & Customer Engagement Panels – 270421

A member authority is seeking to launch a pilot mystery shopper across their leisure centres and other cultural sites.

Please can you answer the following:

  • Are you currently operating successful customer engagement programmes such as mystery shoppers, customer panels, customer focus groups etc – either virtually or physically?
  • Do you have a remuneration or rewards scheme/programme for these activities? If so, how do you operate these and what do you remunerate/reward the participants with?
  • Do you reward staff for excellent service as a result e.g. theatre tickets, café vouchers and leisure memberships etc?
  • How do you recruit members for customer engagement programmes?

A member authority is reviewing the requirement for employee DBS checks within their leisure centres.

Please can you provide the following details:

  • Which posts do you subject to DBS checking?
  • What level of clearance do you specify?
  • What is your time period until rechecking? (or only on appointment)

A local authority is considering building a new swimming pool facility and is keen to hear from other member authorities who have recently or are in the process of building a new swimming pool and/ or leisure provision?  In particular:-

  1. Do you have any indicative costs you would be willing to share?
  2. Is it a new build on a greenfield or brownfield site?

SL0243 – Integrated Membership systems - Libraries and Leisure – 220221

A member authority is reviewing its membership system for both Libraries and Leisure facilities

 

  • Do you use an integrated membership system for both?

A member authority is seeking advice and guidance on carrying out risk assessments for sports activities played in parks and open spaces:

  • Do you have examples or guidance of risk assessments for:
    • football and/or cricket played formally on booked park pitches?
    • the informal use of goals or cricket wickets by casual users?
