A member authority is reconsidering its policy on outdoor footwear in wetside changing rooms.

Please can you provide answers to the following:

•              Do you allow customers into wetside/pool changing rooms wearing outdoor footwear?

o             If No, what are they required to do? Remove shoes, wear indoor etc?

•              Do you provide plastic overshoes for these areas?

o             If yes, do you provide them free of charge or charge (how much)?

o             If yes, are you planning to remove the plastic overshoes due to the environmental impact?

•              If you don't provide plastic overshoes, do you provide/sell alternatives?

•              How do you educate users of the rules on outdoor footwear?

Group fitness sessions in parks are increasingly popular.

Do you have a licensing or authorisation process for any of the following:

•              Have you reduced the number of fitness classes?

A member authority is reviewing their leisure operations in relation to incoming phone calls

A member authority is reviewing pay rates with leisure

Please would you provide the following information:

  • Hourly rate of pay for leisure attendants who work poolside (pool lifeguards)?
  • What is the current rate of pay for:
    • leisure attendants who do not work poolside (dryside staff) ?
    • receptionists / front of house staff ?
    • gym instructors?
    • cleaners?
  • Do the staff get enhanced rates on a weekend?
    • if so what is the rate i.e time and a half, time and fifth etc.
  • Do the staff get any other enhanced rates i.e shifts allowance, unsociable hours allowance etc.

SL0264 APSE Network Query: On Course - Learn to Swim Programme 270722     

A member authority is currently using On Course (provided Fitronics through XN Leisure) to manage our learn to swim programme.

They are currently not able to use the system, so are having to manage records manually instead.

They now understand that On Course is no longer supported by Fitronics, and instead have to move to Course Hub, their new platform.

  • What/Who system do you use to manage your learn to swim programme?
    • Would you recommend it?
  • If you currently use On Course, have you had similar issues with it?
  • Do you use Course Hub, and how are you finding it?

A member authority is seeking to make their leisure centres cashless ( as in card / electronic payments only) for casual users

They are keep to learn from others who have attempted similar

Please can you answer the following:

•              Do you operate cashless?

o             If so can people without payment cards still access the facility?

o             What alternative provision/ options exist for cash payment?

o             Approximately what proportion of till payments are still collected as cash?

A member authority is keen to gain insight into group fitness instructors (GFI) pay and conditions of employment.

Please can you provide answers to the following information:

  1. Are your group fitness instructors?
    • Contractually employed
    • Zero hours contracted
    • Self-employed/freelance
  2. Have you ever procured, or engaged with an external group fitness deliverer?
    • If so, what were the main features and costs of the procurement?
    • Were there any challenges or barriers around the procurement process and/ or delivery of classes.

If so, please provide more detail.

  1. How much do you pay a GFI per hour?
    • Is it a flat rate or does it include a market supplement rate?
    • Do you have contracted and self-employed GFI’s delivering classes. i.e. hybrid model.
    • Do you pay more for specialised classes, e.g yoga , if so what’s the % increase in payment?
  2. What is your minimum qualification for an aqua instructor?
    • Please specify the awarding body
  3. Are there any additional benefits added to their contract, e.g. free or discounted membership?
  4. What is the GFI staff turnover rate?
  5. What is the main reason cited for leaving the job?
  6. How do you performance manage low attended classes?
  7. How do you terminate their contract or reduce their hours if their classes are not well attended or financially viable ?
