Productivity of buses – TV0102/300812
This local authority would like to hear from other authorities who have measured the 'productivity' of their buses (all sizes). They would like to know if you have any figures on the ‘acceptable’ levels of productivity (incorporating peak and off-peak times) and what levels you achieve.


Provision of pool cars – TVM0101/200712
This local authority is currently reviewing its arrangements for grey fleet mileages claims, car parking and provision of pool cars.  They would like to hear from other councils about the different delivery methods for their provision of pool cars, in particular:

  • Are employees charged for parking at Council buildings? If so, how much?
  • How many pool cars are used?
  • Across how many different sites?
  • Are the pool cars managed in-house or by an external organisation? If external, who?
  • What makes/models of vehicle(s) are used?
  • Approximate total number of employees in the Council

Procurement of electric vans – TVM0100/040712
This local authority would be interested in finding out from other authorities who have procured electric vans:

  • Which types of vehicles have you purchased?
  • Have you managed to receive grant funding for this?
  • If so, from which organisation?

Monitoring eligibility to drive – TVM0099/040712
This local authority Fleet Service would like to know how other authorities ensure that their drivers of council vehicles are eligible to drive, i.e:

  • How often are driving licences checked?
  • Who is responsible for undertaking driving licence checks?
  • How many points are drivers allowed to amass on their licence before being stopped from driving?
  • Do authorities issue permits to drivers who drive council vehicles?

Pay rates for vehicle technicians – TVM0098/040712
This local authority currently only has one rate of pay for vehicle technicians:

  • Does any authority have more than one grade or level of vehicle technician?
  • What has been included in the duties of each grade/level?
  • Do any authorities pay a supplement for MOT testing?

Modifications to refuse collection vehicles for when it is dark - TVM0096
This Local Authority plans to implement a two shift system (operating between 06:00 and 21:00 Monday - Friday) for bin collection later this year. They would like to ask other Local Authorities who have gone through similar exercises about any modifications to refuse collection vehicles they have made or considered in order to improve safety of members of the public and refuse crews when working during hours of darkness.
