Seminar objectives

You are cordially invited to attend the formal launch of APSE Energy in Scotland which is taking place together with a workshop on the opportunities for local authorities to play an increasingly important role in both the generation of green and sustainable energy and also future supply arrangements for communities. The workshop which is being organised in partnership with OVO Energy, will provide an excellent opportunity for members of APSE Energy and other local authorities to explore the potential for local government to become directly involved with and on behalf of communities in the generation, distribution and supply of energy. The workshop will explore the emerging options for energy supply and retail together with case studies looking at the ambitions for Scottish councils.

APSE Energy was launched by APSE as a new service for local authorities in April 2014 with the aim of: “forming an effective collaboration of a large number of local authorities to enable and facilitate the municipalisation of energy services. By this we mean the public and community, as well as private, ownership and managerial control of local energy generation, distribution networks and delivery of energy efficiency works. Local authorities working together in this way would have great influence and would be able to deliver economies of scale in green energy to promote economic growth and combat fuel poverty.”

The launch and associated workshop is a free event and is open to all APSE and APSE Energy members authorities in Scotland.
