Fast track to Brunel’s Old Station for Council Finalists

Councils across the UK were celebrating last night as they discovered they were amongst those to make the finals of the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Council of the Year in Service Delivery Award 2011. The councils will find out if they are the overall winner at a charity awards dinner to be held in Bristol at the historic Brunel’s Old Station on the 8 September.

Over 300 submissions for the APSE awards were received from Councils throughout the UK but to reach the finalist stages for the Overall Council of the Year each Council had to prove its worth in at least four different areas of frontline service delivery.

Commenting on the finalists APSE Chief Executive Paul O’Brien said ‘There are some real big names in local government amongst our finalists and all are thoroughly deserving of their finalist place. After an austere couple of years in local  government these awards are a welcome way to acknowledge that, despite the pressures on local councils, those that work to deliver frontline service have continued to make sure that they provide much valued services to their local residents and businesses.’
