The local government Olympians head for victory

Councils across the UK are celebrating their own finalist successes after being nominated for local government awards by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE). The councils have made their way on to the finalists list for awards which recognise the very best in frontline service delivery in local government.  Speaking about the awards APSE Chief executive Paul O’Brien said;

‘Over the last couple of weeks we have all been so proud of our Team GB athletes but every day in every council we have our own ‘Olympians’ who, in spite of harsh budget settlements, and even greater demands on public services, continue to go that extra mile to serve the public’

The APSE service awards are unique in the local government calendar because they reflect frontline service achievements in services as wide ranging as refuse collection through to school meals to council run leisure centres. The award winners will be announced in Glasgow on Thursday 13 September 2012.
