Shining bright above Aviemore: The APSE Scotland Rising Stars!

APSE Scotland has announced this year's winners of the Rising Stars Awards 2014 which celebrate up and coming public sector managers and officers.

Announcing the award winners APSE Chief Executive Paul O’Brien said 'This year’s awards judging was tougher than ever with such an array of local government talent showcasing both a commitment to public services and to public service users. Whilst we know that these are far from easy times in public sector management these winners and finalists of the Rising Stars Awards highlight the genuine talent that we have in public sector management. Dynamic, entrepreneurial and carrying a public service ethos to the heart of what they do, they are well deserving of the recognition that the Rising Stars Awards carry.’

The Waste Management category was kindly sponsored by Zero Waste Scotland and their spokesperson Charlie Devine, Head of Resource Management, said ‘ It is fantastic to see the commitment to better local environmental services and we congratulate all the finalists and winners. I hope that these up and coming managers continue to play an important role in helping Scotland develop a more circular economy throughout their future careers.’

The Parks Grounds and Fleet category was kindly sponsored by AEBI Schmidt , whose spokesman Nick Preston commented on the finalists saying ‘These Rising Stars have demonstrated that they understand the complexities and challenges of the local government marketplace. They are the very people that we hope to work with in the future to take forward a positive vision in the parks, grounds and street scene sector’.

SMA Vehicle Remarketing kindly sponsored the Rising Star award in Fleet services and spokesman Robert Smith said ‘The challenges of the Fleet sector means that councils need the skills of future managers who understand the sector and the opportunities that good fleet management and usage means to frontline services. I offer my sincere congratulations to these deserving winners and of course the great range of finalists’.
