Local Government Awards Northern Ireland now open for entries

Local Government Awards Northern Ireland now open for entries

The Local Government Awards in Northern Ireland showcase brilliance in service provision, new initiatives and personal commitment from councils, councillors and partners. The Awards offer public recognition whilst motivating those delivering and sustaining front line and other key local government services.

Award categories are designed to foster innovation, exceptional commitment and great work all round, whilst providing opportunities for local government’s staff and members to step forward, excel and shine.

Councillor Seán McPeake, NILGA President, said:

“It’s two years on from Local Council Reform – we have seen dramatic change, but also a lot of quiet efficiencies and successes. A huge amount of hard work and dedication has gone into modernising and improving councils for local people and local communities – as well as wider government and civic society.

As we continue this work, the Awards also offer great learning and information exchange, something NILGA fosters every day. I encourage those working within the local government sector to put forward their nominations as soon as possible to compete and potentially be recognised for their outstanding contribution.”

The Awards cover eight categories and sponsor partners/support bodies contributing are: Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE); William Johnston Memorial Trust (WJMT); Enterprise Northern Ireland; Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE); Oracle; Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA); National Association of Councillors (NAC) and Tourism NI.

Nominees are judged by an independent panel. Up to three finalists in each category will get an opportunity to go forward to the Gala Awards Recognition Evening as the culmination of NILGA’s Flagship Annual Conference, “Local Need, Global Reach”, at the La Mon Hotel, Castlereagh, on Thursday 12th October 2017.

The Northern Ireland Local Government Awards submissions are now closed.

All authorities entering these awards should have received a confirmatory email receipt. If you have not yet received your confirmation, as a matter of urgency please contact Daraj Scukina to check the status of your submission on [email protected]

Finalists will be announced in Mid August – Watch this Space!
