It has been announced that Paul O’Brien, Chief Executive of the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) has taken the decision to retire. Paul has led the Association since 1999, successfully growing the organisation to a membership of over 250 local authorities.
Having commissioned and contributed to over 100 APSE research publications Paul has greatly influenced APSE’s presence and voice in the Local Government sector. Most recently Paul was Chair of the APSE Local Government Commission 2030 that produced the highly regarded ‘Local by Default’ report. He was named in the LGC magazine’s 100 most influential people in Local Government and has been a regular contributor to the MJ magazine.
He will be sorely missed by his peers, colleagues and friends at APSE.
Paul will continue in his role whilst a recruitment process is underway to facilitate his replacement and a further announcement will be made in due course.
Councillor Andrea Lewis, APSE’s National Chair said “On behalf of APSE’s National Council I would like to thank Paul for his contribution to APSE and wish him a long, happy, and healthy retirement”
