What role do Town and Parish Councils (TPCs) have in addressing the climate crisis at a local level?
As a vital part of the local democratic process, elected representatives and staff, can inspire and enable local people to make informed choices and advocate for their community’s best interests.
This course has been designed to help Town and Parish Councils lead by example.
By exploring the actions needed to meet net-zero targets, this highly interactive programme aims to enhance the vital role of TPCs in supporting local communities.
APSE has been delivering a successful suite of Carbon Literacy courses for more than 4 years. As a Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation, we are pleased to offer our latest course in conjunction with The Carbon Literacy Project.
To become Carbon Literate, participants will need to attend “a day’s worth of training” and complete a short form to pledge individual and group actions which will reduce carbon emissions.
About this course
Town and Parish Councillors, Officers and volunteers, Local Authority staff and Elected Members who work with and support Town or Parish Councils.
You may have expertise and experience through your own personal interest or professional life, or you may have no prior knowledge and find the whole topic bamboozling – whatever level of expertise you have, the course trainer will equip you with the stills to make the most significant climate conscious actions and the confidence to encourage others to do the same.
How will the course be delivered?
This course will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. To access it, you will need a WiFi connection or mobile data hotspot. Downloading Microsoft Teams to your laptop, desktop or smart device will give a better performance and greater functionality throughout the day. This highly interactive training includes a mixture of presentations, video conferencing, group work, games, quizzes and video.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, you will:
Carbon Literacy Award
This course is run online as a full day or as two half-days. You must actively take part in a “full day’s worth” of certified Carbon Literacy training to be eligible for the Carbon Literacy Award. After your training, you are asked to complete a form to pledge and justify new climate action in relation to your role with the Town or Parish Council. An independent assessment of learning is made by The Carbon Literacy Project prior to your certificate being awarded.
