As the profile of low emission vehicles grows local authorities need to remain aware of the implications on them both as managers of their own vehicle fleets and as leaders in their localities dealing with transport planning, air quality and supporting the move to low emission vehicles. They must ensure their own investment in vehicles is future proofed and that they are supporting local citizens and economies to use low carbon vehicles. The context of air quality, developing technology and government plans for fossil fuel engines mean this agenda will only grow. As such, local authority and other public sector officers and councillors need to remain aware of developments.  

There is clearly a role for local government here but markets do not respect local authority boundaries so ensuring a regional approach to this technology is vital too. Equally there is a range of associated infrastructure which must be invested in if the local authority is to fully embrace the move to low emission vehicles – examples include charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, grid issues and solar canopies.

This event is an ideal opportunity to understand the context and the technology, hear from experienced councils who are early movers in this agenda and to think about the regional role that local authorities and other public service providers can have.

Those with the following responsibilities need to be attending this event –transport, energy, asset management, vehicle management and maintenance, finance/investment, communications, fleet procurement, economic development

Speakers from Corby and Oxford Councils will speaking about their experience of fleet procurement and investment in charging infrastructure whilst speakers from CENEX, OLEV and REA will cover the wider context for low emission vehicles, technical developments and  examples of costs and practical procurement considerations.

There will be ample opportunities to ask questions and discuss topics, to network with delegates and speak to presenters.
