The government has announced £15.6 million of investment to upgrade ageing and inefficient heat networks, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing costs for more than 10,000 residents.
A total of 94 heat networks across England and Wales will receive support through the scheme, including £1.2 million for upgrades to heating systems in three 1960s high-rise blocks in Salford.
Four additional heat network projects across England will receive a share of £25 million to support the development of sustainable heating infrastructure to deliver more reliable and affordable energy.
The investment forms part of the government’s Warm Homes Plan, which aims to improve the nation’s housing standards, reduce household energy bills and tackle fuel poverty.
Heat networks are expected to play a key role in supporting the transition to cleaner energy to meet the government’s target of achieving clean power by 2030.
