The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Northeast Universities Plus (ReNU+) is a unique and ambitious programme, aiming to train the next generation of innovators in clean energy.
We are pleased to announce we have three fully funded PhD projects based at Durham University, now open for applications, starting in October 2026. Studentships are available for applicants who wish to study on a full-time or part-time basis.
Please refer to the individual project adverts for full details and deadline date.
ReNU+ CDT hosted 2 online sessions to help potential applicants learn more about the PhD programme with ReNU+, the application process and provide an informal opportunity to ask questions. Current PhD researchers also shared their experiences and tips for successfully applying to a PhD programme.

Organisations can partner with the ReNU+ programme in several ways, creating a two-way benefit system for both industry and research.
Partnership with the ReNU+ programme provides the following benefits:
• Tailored Solutions: Shape research that tackles your industry’s specific challenges.
• Top Talent Access: Engage with skilled researchers primed for industry roles.
• Fast-Track Innovation: Bring new ideas from research to real-world application swiftly.
Companies looking to upskill employees can do so through a collaborative ReNU+ studentship, available on a part-time basis, where you can design the project to be investigated.
