Walton Hall and Gardens, Warrington
Attendees at the Forum will hear how local authorities and their partners have taken on the responsibility for large, historically-important cultural built-assets, namely large buildings and gardens, and refurbished and regenerated them to make them fit for 21st century community needs.
Presentations will cover case studies that show how local authorities have developed visions, attracted funding, created a wide range of community facilities as well as income generating opportunities which are helping to sustain these assets in a time of austerity.
However local authorities also have responsibilities for local housing stock, which often needs to be improved and updated to make it fit for residents. We will see how through adopting a corporate landlord approach, significant improvements have been made in one local authority’s housing assets.
When considering building refurbishments, it would perhaps be remiss to not consider energy efficiency and the wider climate change agenda, and therefore we will hear from speakers examples regarding improving both energy efficiency in heritage buildings as well as the wider brief of residential property needs.
Therefore this forum will address how local authorities are managing and preserving both built-heritage and also residential homes to ensure their future community relevance and sustainability as well as their eco-efficiency in line with climate change emergency declarations.
