BBC presenter and journalist Annabel Tiffin has announced the winners of this years APSE Performance Networks awards which recognise the best and most improved councils in frontline service delivery.
Speaking at the awards APSE chief executive Paul O’Brien said “These awards are a timely way to recognise the huge contribution that local council frontline services make to local communities. They show a genuine commitment to deliver the very best in public services, reflecting hard evidence from councils that they take cost, quality and improving local services seriously”
The awards are designed to recognise councils that have taken part in sharing data through benchmarking, to ensure that they are delivering good local services using performance information on cost, quality and productivity.
The data benchmarking is supported by working groups which allow councils to share information on how they have improved local services whilst maintaining service quality and best value costs. The data can demonstrate everything from the cost of emptying a household bin to changing a street light or the price of providing a school meal.
Commenting on the award winners Debbie Johns, APSE Head of Performance Networks said “In recent years councils have been encouraged by Government to assess their own performance and demonstrate to local council taxpayers that they are providing value for money. What better is there for councils to prove their worth than to benchmark with others and seek to continuously improve the local services they provide. These are all deserving winners.”
