Seminar objectives

The workshop which is being organised in partnership with Gen Community, British Gas Solar and Social Finance is designed to consider the opportunities to deliver large scale community energy projects for local authorities and housing associations using new models of social finance which de-risk projects and give local authorities and communities a stake in community energy projects.

The workshop will look at:

  • Community Energy and the role out of the Community Energy Strategy
  • Different means of financing solar projects
  • The offer from Gen Community and British Gas Solar for local ownership of low carbon energy projects
  • A case study of social finance for solar pv
  • Procurement and contractual issues

There will be an opportunity to hear from a range of experts and to contribute to group discussion and feedback.

After lunch delegates will have an opportunity to tour the British Gas Headquarters. BGB Oxford is one of few EPC A rated energy efficient office buildings in the country. It makes use of the following low carbon energy system:

  • Three 100 kW Froling Biomass boilers (zero direct carbon emissions)
  • Solar thermal array providing supplementary heat to the DHW
  • Large Photovoltaic (PV) array saving 88,700 kWh / 46 tonnes CO2 per annum
  • LED lighting saving - 60% on typical lighting systems
  • Trend 963 BMS system providing efficient building control

This event is FREE to attend for members of APSE and APSE energy. This includes a full delegate place and information, arrival coffee and registration, mid-morning break and lunch. The workshop will allow delegates to network over lunch.
