Forum Objectives

This forum will look to chart the future of local authority direct services over the next 5 years. Speakers will anticipate political and technological change and suggest what measures local government need to take now to remain ahead of the game.

Frontline services across Wales have now seen several years of increasing budgetary pressure and for many, that has forced reductions in staff and levels of service.

Those working in environmental services such as waste and street cleansing, parks, highways, facilities management, school catering, building maintenance, transport and leisure are competing for staff in a competitive market. It is now imperative to take the initiative and seek out tomorrow’s workforce and train and retain their talent. All services have to become even more efficient and manage demand and public expectation to ensure future relevancy and survival
