The Assocation for Public Service Excellence presents 'Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter', a collaboaration with ITN Productions.
In a unique communications partnership, The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) and ITN Productions present a news and long-form current affairs-style programme highlighting APSE’s vision to encourage healthy, environmentally friendly and smart solutions for local communities.
Since government austerity measures were introduced in 2010, council spending cut backs and the subsequent effects on front line services have long dominated the story of local government. While austerity measures are still an underlying factor (for the foreseeable future), ‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ moves forward, looking at how APSE is championing initiatives that improve the health as well as wealth of communities across the UK.
The programme reveals how making a positive change can bring multi-faceted and potentially long reaching effects at local and even national level. ‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ focuses on how these elements together can improve the living and working environments for the local population.
APSE supports the importance of greener, cleaner and smarter approaches that give direct and indirect benefits to local communities. Through the news items and participant films, ‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ gives recognition to local councils and businesses who are taking innovative approaches with a focus on health, well-being and economic growth, despite the current economic climate.
Drawing upon ITN’s 60 year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the news-style piece is anchored by award-winning journalist and presenter Alice Beer, and combines key interviews and reports with sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.
‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ launched at the APSE Annual Seminar 2018 in Edinburgh, Wednesday 12th – Thursday 13th September 2018, and forms part of an extensive communications campaign featuring APSE members and professional partners, as well as relevant journalists, bloggers and government departments.
Paul O’Brien, Chief Executive, Association of Public Service Excellence said, “Local government is facing cuts that are the worst in over 70 years. Reduced budgets, combined with an increasing demand for services, means that councils are having to radically rethink the way they deliver frontline services. Unfortunately, the fact that local authorities are spearheading innovation in service delivery often goes unreported. This programme provides an excellent opportunity to remedy this. From housing to transport to energy, ‘Future Communities: Cleaner, Greener, Smarter,’ allows councils across the UK to showcase their bold and transformative products and initiatives; heightening awareness among policy-makers, politicians and the wider sector.”
Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions, said, “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Association of Public service Excellence to produce a programme exploring the need to encourage healthy, environmentally friendly and smart solutions for local communities. We hope the content can be used to exchange ideas, celebrate success stories and engage members and the wider audience”
