In a unique communications partnership, The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) and ITN Productions are producing a news and long-form current affairs-style programme highlighting APSE’s vision to encourage healthy, environmentally friendly and smart solutions for local communities
Since government austerity measures were introduced in 2010, council spending cuts and the subsequent effects on front line services have long dominated the story of local government. While austerity measures are still an underlying factor (for the foreseeable future), ‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ will be moving forward, looking at how APSE is championing initiatives that improve the health, as well as wealth, of communities across the UK.
The programme will reveal how making a positive change can bring multi-faceted and potentially long reaching effects at local and even national level. ‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ will focus on how these elements together can improve the living and working environments for the local population.
APSE supports the importance of greener, cleaner and smarter approaches that give direct and indirect benefits to local communities. Through the news items and participant films, ‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ will give recognition to local councils and businesses who are taking innovative approaches. Whether through roads and street lighting, local environmental quality, leisure, local energy, health, well-being or digital initiatives the programme will bring together innovations which provide real outcomes for local communities. In spite of the current economic climate the programme will showcase how councils and innovative businesses can be at the heart of supporting local economies and local communities.
Drawing upon ITN’s 60 year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the news-style piece will be anchored by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky to combine key interviews and reports with sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.
‘Future Communities: Greener, Cleaner, Smarter’ will launch in APSE Annual Seminar 2018 in Edinburgh, Wednesday 12th – Thursday 13th September 2018, and form part of an extensive communications campaign featuring APSE members and professional partners, as well as relevant journalists, bloggers and government departments.
Paul O’Brien, Chief Executive, Association for Public Service Excellence said: “Once again we are delighted to be working with an industry leader through partnering with ITN productions. The local government story, in spite of recent financial hardships, is one which embraces a spirit of entrepreneurialism. At a local level councils are uniquely placed to deliver for local economies and for their communities. By bringing together innovation and best practice this programme we will have the capacity to inspire others to take forward a clean, green and smarter vision for their local areas”.
Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Association for Public Service Excellence to produce a programme exploring the need to encourage healthy, environmentally friendly and smart solutions for local communities.
