Eight Aces: Announcing the APSE Overall Council of the Year finalists 2023

Eight outstanding UK local authorities have been shortlisted for this year's "Big One".

This Award recognises the best and most innovative local authority in the UK. Focusing on their delivery of frontline services, the Award seeks to celebrate those councils who are achieving excellent results in a wide range of different service areas.

 

  • Cambridge City Council

  • Cheshire West and Chester Council

  • Derby City Council

  • Inverclyde Council

  • Mid and East Antrim Borough Council

  • Neath Port Talbot Council

  • Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

  • Wigan Council

 

Mo Baines, APSE Chief Executive, said, “We received around 300 submissions for the awards this year, with each one demonstrating a clear commitment to the goals of continuous improvement and the delivery of excellence in public services. Despite very serious ongoing pressures to frontline service delivery, the eight authorities shortlisted have demonstrated extraordinary levels of resilience and ingenuity in supporting local communities across the UK. Congratulations to each of our outstanding finalists - and good luck in Belfast!"

The winner of the prestigious APSE Overall Council of the Year Award 2023 will be announced in Belfast at the APSE Annual Service Awards Charity Dinner on Thursday 14 September.

  • The APSE Annual Service Awards include 21 submission categories or 22 when you include Overall Council of the Year. Click here for a full list of this year's finalists.
  • To be eligible for the Overall Council of the Year category, you must enter 4 or more submissions. These 4 submissions must be for different categories.
  • All entries (even unsuccessful ones) help contribute to the Overall Council of the Year shortlist.
  • Eight organisations were shortlisted for this year's Overall Council of the Year Award.

APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) is a not for profit unincorporated association working with over 300 councils throughout the UK.
