On a cold and crisp day in December 2022, local authorities from across the whole of the UK gathered in Liverpool to witness a revolution in waste management. Liverpool City Council has introduced Underground Refuse Systems (URS) that will create a cleaner waste solution for 27,000 inner-city households.
This is the first URS system in the UK that has been installed in a high-density residential area, with each bin able to collect about a week's worth of rubbish from 20 houses. This event, run by APSE, and supported by its official suppliers, gave councils a chance to see the systems for themselves and learn how they can also reap the benefits of greatly reduced collection costs, fewer emissions, better hygiene and pathways free of wheelie bins.
MOBA was proud to attend, showcasing its range of hardware and software solutions that facilitates the implementation and maintenance of URS.
