Cllr Archie Dryburgh, MBE

It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the death of Cllr Archie Dryburgh, MBE.

Archie was a much-loved member of APSE’s National Council and twice held the office of APSE National Chair, and that of Vice Chair and Chair of APSE Scotland, over successive terms, he was also the inaugural chair of APSE Synergy Ltd. Archie was instrumental in setting up the ‘APSE Armed Forces and Veterans Network’ proudly chairing the network and working with the UK Ministry of Defence to ensure the success of the network.
   
Archie was first elected as a local councillor in 2007, then appointed as Dumfries and Galloway Council Veterans Champion in 2009, and as the Armed Forces Champion from 2011 onwards; roles which he cherished.

Having successfully transferred his skills from the Army to a life in public service, following a career built in the Nuclear Industry specialising in health and safety training, he went on to be recognised by the late Queen Elizabeth II with the award of an MBE for Services to the Armed Forces and Local Authorities in 2019.

Throughout his life of public service Archie dedicated much of his time to his work for charities - including a veterans’ breakfast club. He was above all a proud husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather and a friend to so many including of course his ‘APSE family’.
