Local authorities are the dominant providers of a whole range of sports and leisure facilities, from swimming pools to gyms and sports stadia. Frequently listed as a partner by a range of sports and government bodies, funding rarely follows. As a predominantly non-statutory service, leisure has to find a new basis for delivering services, one that relies less on direct Council funding and more on its integration with public health, community activity and local sports clubs.
This seminar covers all aspects of sports and leisure facility management, including investment in new and improved facilities, legal aspects of health and safety, energy savings, building partnerships with national governing bodies, financial performance and recruitment and retention of members. Equally importantly is an emphasis on ensuring sports facilities are seen as an integral part of the economic and social wellbeing priorities of the Council.
The Olympics has been and gone, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games are soon to be upon us. With a national focus on sport for at least another year, now is the time to ensure that facilities drive out remaining efficiency savings in their operation and maximise their potential for future growth.
