APSE Winter Maintenance Seminar 2015

APSE Winter Maintenance Seminar 2015

View the full seminar programme

Will it be a severe winter in 2015/16? Will the gritters be out every night for 2 months? Will our salt stocks last for the duration of the winter? Nobody knows the answers to those questions of course
and the coming winter may turn out to be one of the warmest winters on record.

But you still have to be prepared for what might come along and part of that preparedness is to be aware of latest developments in terms of community engagement, communications, use of ICT and collaboration. Related issues such as training, insurance claims and environmental concerns are just as important. Recent high profile incidents raise the issue of management responsibilities for drivers employed as a further topic which those delivering highway services need to keep abreast of.

All of these topics will be addressed in the winter maintenance seminar. It has an operational focus and will be addressed byexperts and professional from across the sector enabling managers to come together and keep up to date with many subjects on a single day, discuss issues with colleagues and engage with suppliers.

There will be a discussion about the implications of the accidents involving fatalities for managers responsible for highways and winter maintenance services with an opportunity for delegates to explain the arrangements in place at their authorities and identify areas for concern. The agenda will be flexible with plenty of time for questions and debate.

Suppliers will be on hand to inform delegates about services and products available to them and describe new developments. This is a free event for APSE members, and forms part of APSE
Northern services to members to allow topical debate and an opportunity to network with colleagues, learning from their experiences. It will be held on Thursday 1st October 2015 at the Bradford Bulls Odsal Stadium, Stadium Road, Bradford, BD1 1HY and all officers, councillors and union representatives from APSE member authorities are invited.

Registration will be from 9:30am for a 10.00am start, refreshments will be available and lunch will also be provided. As you will appreciate, this type of event works best when those attending are happy to share their experience, policies and procedures, highlighting the problems and benefits of different approaches. APSE is happy to take forward any relevant work that comes out of the event such as further surveys, research or workshops.
