Seminar objectives

The intention of the seminar is to inform corporate and service managers about their responsibilities in terms of health, safety and wellbeing, to provide an update about developments across the sector and highlight a number of case studies. Speakers include Jonathan Cowlan from Pinsent Masons discussing what councils need to have in place to deal with accidents and Dr Margaret Cunningham from the University of Stirling talking about stress and its impacts across an organisation. The agenda for employee and community wellbeing is constantly developing yet it remains vital that managers and officers are aware of their responsibilities and that local authority services help to protect their communities.
This seminar will look at strategic and operational issues as well as highlighting a number of projects which are being taken forward at individual local authorities. Topics addressed include the role of managers, what constitutes wellbeing, driving, corporate support systems and stress. Each of these has a potential impact on staff management and productivity. Further sessions will look at specific projects including community engagement, infection control and driving behaviour.
