It's hard to believe that it is over two years since we last held a Refuse, Recycling, Street scene, Grounds and Parks Seminar.
Since this time, we have gone through an international pandemic, seen various new pieces of service specific legislation, endured several rounds of budget cuts, heard announcement of actual and promised levels of additional government funding, and more recently experienced some of the most extreme weather conditions ever seen in the UK.
The environment has never been more visible in the public eye, and as providers of services which have significant impacts on the environment, both locally, nationally and globally, it is important that we are kept informed about how our services are faring in this area of work.
Local authority frontline services are playing a major part in trying to improve the quality of the environment. Whether this be through trying to influence waste reduction or by treating the waste we do produce more sustainably as well as protecting and improving our parks and greenspaces to improve opportunities for biodiversity and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Government, local authorities and their partners are delivering strategies and practical projects which are beginning to make a difference. But as always, reducing budgets and new challenges are constantly adding to the work required to bring about positive change.
This seminar aims to highlight innovation and best practice across local authorities and their partners in addressing many of these challenges.
The event will therefore be an opportunity for elected members, officers and other key stakeholders from across a wide range of environmentally- based services to once again come together to share thoughts and views on how they are meeting the growing environmental agenda as well as the financial challenges in order to create a better, safer and more sustainable environment for both the present and future generations.
