Scottish Building & Housing Seminar 2013

Scottish Building & Housing Seminar 2013

Peebles Hydro Hotel
Thursday 21 and Friday 22 February 2013

Seminar objectives

Just as the local government landscape is changing, the context for housing is rapidly developing. The squeeze on financial resources will continue to impact on all areas of housing provision. Ensuring effective use of resources is vital if new requirements around regulation are to be met, increasing demand for council housing addressed and housing continues to have a positive role in terms of wider social impacts. Challenging carbon emission reduction targets are not going away and the building and housing services have key roles to play in helping achieve these. Rather than seeing energy efficiency and green issues as a desirable, they are now viewed as a route to income, jobs, training, lower fuel bills and a better local environment. Old approaches are no longer sustainable as carbon reduction and energy efficiency is now a core element of what Councils are expected to deliver and tenants expect.

The seminar will contain a number of workshops which will be interactive case studies which highlight latest practices within the sector across a range of topics, which are highlighted in the programme. As such the seminar will bring together key players from the sector to examine in detail a range of contemporary strategic and operational issues facing the service.
